Award-winning pianist Helen Lam-Winther will perform a piano recital in Hong Kong next month.
The programme includes Czerny¡¦s ¡§Variations on an Austrian Waltz¡¨, Liszt¡¦s ¡§Liebestraum¡¨, Bizet¡¦s (arr. Horowitz) ¡§Carmen Fantasy¡¨, Schubert¡¦s Two Impromptus ¡§Op. 90, Nos. 3 & 4¡¨, Chopin¡¦s ¡§Ballade No. 1¡¨, Rubinstein¡¦s ¡§Melody in F¡¨, Sinding¡¦s ¡§Rustles of Spring¡¨, Gluck¡¦s (arr. Sgambati) ¡§Melody¡¨ (from ¡§Orfeo¡¨), Tchaikovsky¡¦s (arr. Wild) ¡§Dance of the Four Little Swans¡¨ (from ¡§Swan Lake¡¨), Tchaikovsky¡¦s (arr. Pletnev) ¡§Concert Suite¡¨ (from ¡§The Nutcracker¡¨), Gershwin¡¦s (arr. Wild) ¡§Six Virtuosic Etudes¡¨.
Born in Hong Kong, Helen Lam-Winther received professional music training in England, and now lives in Australia. She started playing the piano when she was five and has studied under Michael Young, Professor Christopher Elton, Professor Victor Makarov, and many more.
Lam-Winther won her first Hong Kong School Music Festival trophy in her early teens under the guidance of Silina Lam. Subsequently, with the tuition of Eleanor Wong, she won prizes and scholarships that enabled her to study at Wells Cathedral School and Cambridge University. She also started recording for Radio Television Hong Kong during her teenage years.
Lam-Winther has played in varies venues world wide including the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, Wells Cathedral, Cambridge University, Munich Gasteig, Hong Kong City Hall, and has featured in festivals at Dartington (UK) and Dortmund (Germany). Recordings have been made for radio broadcasts in Hong Kong and Sweden, also for British Broadcasting Corporation and Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Two CDs have been produced and released, featuring a kaleidoscope of styles and composers. She has taught piano at tertiary and junior levels at the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and is performing extensively in Australia.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the "City Hall Theatre Recital Series: Piano Recital by Helen Lam-Winther" will be staged at 8pm on December 9, 2005 (Friday) at the Theatre, Hong Kong City Hall.
Tickets priced at $120 and $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients.
