Tickets to the two concerts of the Berliner Philharmoniker have been sold out.
Hong Kong music lovers who could not get tickets can still watch the concerts on the big screens set up at Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazzas. The concerts on both nights will be telecast live to the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Piazzas.
Admission to the Cultural Centre Piazza is free on a first-come, first-served basis. Members of the public will be admitted to the piazza from 7pm.
The orchestra, under the baton of Chief Conductor Simon Rattle, will perform Berlioz's "Overture Le Corsaire", Ravel's "Ma mere l'oye" and Beethoven's "Symphony No. 3 in E-flat, Op. 55, 'Eroica'" in the first concert. The second concert will feature Haydn's "Symphony No. 86 in D", Ades' "Asyla" and Richard Strauss' "Ein Heldenleben".
Established in 1882, the Berliner Philharmoniker has been shaped artistically by the leadership of a series of distinguished conductors, from the founder, Franz Wullner, to the great violinist, Joseph Joachim, the conductor and pianist Hans von Bulow, Arthur Nikisch, Wilhelm Furtwangler, Herbert von Karajan and Claudio Abbado. Through its tours abroad - started in the Furtwangler era - and its numerous recordings, many of which are regarded as classic, benchmark recordings, the orchestra has established an international reputation as one of the finest in the world, an heir to the Austro-German orchestral tradition.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, the two concerts will be held on November 13 and 14 at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
