The Legislative Council now invites members of the public and interested parties to express their views on the Closed Area (Hong Kong Ministerial Conference of World Trade Organization) Order.
The Order, introduced into the Legislative Council on October 12, 2005, seeks to declare certain areas in Wan Chai and Admiralty as delineated as ˇ§Land Closureˇ¨ and ˇ§Sea Closureˇ¨ under section 36 of the Public Order Ordinance (Cap. 245) during the period from 6pm on December 12, 2005, to 5am on December 19, 2005. Entry into these closed areas will only be allowed with permission from the Commissioner of Police. For background information on the Order, please visit the website:

A sub-committee, chaired by Hon Miriam Lau Kin-yee, has been formed to study the Order. Those interested in giving their views on the Order are invited to send their written submissions (preferably in both Chinese and English and with a soft copy) together with the reply slip downloaded from the website to the Clerk to the sub-committee on or before November 7, 2005 (Monday). They are also requested to indicate whether they intend to make oral representations to the sub-committee at its meeting to be held at 10.45am on Thursday, November 10 in the Chamber of the Legislative Council Building.
It should be noted that submissions received will not be covered by the protection and immunity provided under the Legislative Council (Powers and Privileges) Ordinance (Cap. 382) and they will be made available to the media and the public and uploaded onto the website of the Legislative Council unless advised otherwise. Deputations' addresses at the meeting will also not be covered by the Ordinance.
