The following is issued on behalf of the Broadcasting Authority:
At its meeting today (October 31), the Broadcasting Authority (BA) was satisfied with Galaxy Satellite Broadcasting Limited (Galaxy)'s submission that it had complied with four milestones required under its domestic pay television programme service licence. These milestones relate to the numbers of premises passed by its service (i.e. not fewer than 500,000 by August 23, 2005, 800,000 and 1,200,000 both due by August 23, 2006 respectively) and cumulative capital expenditure (i.e. not less than HK$180 million by August 23, 2005).
The BA also noted that from September to October 20, 2005, the Commissioner for Television and Entertainment Licensing dealt with 216 cases (781 complaints) under her delegated authority, of which 10 (10 complaints) were classified as minor breaches, and 154 (706 complaints) unsubstantiated, under section 11 of the Broadcasting Authority Ordinance; and 52 (65 complaints) were outside section 11 of the Ordinance.
