Police arrested four male mainlanders, aged between 30 and 34, suspected to be in connection with a series of burglary and theft cases in hotels on Hong Kong Island during an operation mounted early this (October 31) morning.
Subsequent to the operation in mid-October on a mainlander gang specialized in committing burglary and theft cases in hotels on Hong Kong Island, Police conducted intensive follow-up investigations.
At about 2 am this morning, officers of the Regional Crime Unit of Hong Kong Island mounted the operation and laid an ambush inside a hotel in Wan Chai. The four men were seen attempting to gain entry to one of the hotel rooms.
Police immediately intercepted the four men and subdued them after a brief struggle. Some thick metal wires, bundle of strings and double-sided adhesive tapes were seized after conducting body searches and from their hotel room.
Enquiries revealed that the arrestees were suspected to be connected with a number of burglary and theft cases which occurred in various hotels on Hong Kong Island between July and September this year.
The four men are still being detained for further enquiries.
Officers of Regional Crime Prevention Office, Hong Kong Island will continue to liaise with the hotel industry to provide further advice in enhancing hotel security measures in order to deter further occurrence of similar offences.
