Lotteries Fund allocates more than $92 million to welfare programmes

    The Lotteries Fund allocated $92,977,125 to finance various social welfare service programmes from July to September, 2005, a Social Welfare Department spokesman said today (October 31).

     "Of that total, $49,564,625 went to social welfare support, $25,673,200 went to elderly and medical social services, $14,878,800 to rehabilitation services, $2,081,900 to family and child welfare, $505,900 to youth services and $272,700 to community development," the spokesman said.

     The fund was established to finance, by way of grants, loans or advances, the operation or development of social welfare services and medical or educational projects with a welfare content.
