TAC briefed on speed limit review and KCRC's monthly pass
********************************************************* Members of the Transport Advisory Committee (TAC) were briefed on the outcome of a speed limit review exercise at their meeting today (October 25).
Chairman of the TAC, Ms Teresa Cheng said regular reviews were conducted on the speed limits of trunk roads and primary distributors by a Working Group comprising representatives from the Transport Department, the Police, the Hong Kong Automobile Association and the Institute of Advanced Motorists Hong Kong.
"In assessing the speed limits of the road sections, the Working Group has considered factors including the accident history, geometry and environment of the road sections, and existing travelling speed of the majority of drivers," Ms Cheng said.
In 2004-05, the Working Group reviewed the speed limits of 22 road sections. They recommended that the speed limit of a section of Island Eastern Corridor be adjusted upward while those of the remaining 21 road sections be maintained.
"We support the Working Group's priority to ensure the safety of road users, and welcome further reviews conducted by the Working Group in future," Ms Cheng said.
Members were also briefed on Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC)'s one-month pass schemes for East Rail and West Rail, and a proposed similar scheme for Ma On Shan Rail.
She said members generally welcomed the initiatives of KCRC in boosting patronage of the railways.
