UK theatre company to present a family portrait in HK
*****************************************************

Theatre O, one of the most promising theatre companies in UK, will soon make their Hong Kong debut with the performance of "The Argument - a family portrait".

Performed in English with Chinese subtitles, the shows will be held at the Studio Theatre of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre at 8pm from December 16 to 18 (Friday to Sunday) and at 3pm on December 18.

Following the theatre's worldwide success of "3 Dark Tales", "The Argument" is both comic and moving. It is about family loss: the death of a mother and the effect on those that remain; an optometrist who does not want to see, a radio announcer who cannot communicate, an auctioneer who will not listen... and a daughter-in-law who is desperate to provide love, support and light refreshment in three languages. The play moves between past and present over 30 years, piecing together a filmic history of an eccentric family in crisis.

Pushing their darkly comic style to its extremes, Theatre O explores the loss of courage, the search for beauty and the absurdly comic situations we find ourselves in at what seem to be our darkest moments. It is a passionate rejection of all things passive. "The Argument" has toured the UK and Mexico and played at the Edinburgh Festival, the Barbican Pit Studio and the Festival of the Firsts in Pittsburgh to unanimous acclaim.

Theatre O was founded by Joseph Alford in 1997 after he left the Ecole Jacques Lecoq in Paris. The company has been repeatedly commissioned by The Barbican BITE for new productions in recent years. Its works attract enormous attention in various theatres of the world. Theatre O's dynamic and powerful physical style uses the extremes of comedy, tragedy, text, music and dance. Its hugely successful "3 Dark Tales" swept the world with critical acclaim.
