Customs seizes $500,000 worth of ketamine
***************************************** At noon yesterday (October 19), Customs officers of the Airport Command seized from an incoming passenger two kilograms of ketamine with an estimated retail value of $500,000.
Customs officers intercepted a passenger, who arrived from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. They found in his travelling bag two kilograms of ketamine, which were partly kept in 45 sachets of "health food" in three sealed boxes, and partly in a bag concealed at the bottom of the travelling bag.
A 30-year-old Malaysian man was arrested. He was charged with trafficking in a dangerous drug and will appear in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (October 21).
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, drug trafficking is a serious offence and the maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
