Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island

Police officers issued a total of 542 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 45 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.

The operation concluded at 7 pm today (October 18) and a total of 171 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.

A total of 330 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 212 for other traffic offences.

Fifty-five pedestrians and 305 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.

Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.

Statistics revealed that a total of 2,219 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island so far this year.

Of them, 51 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
