
Employer fined for wage offences
******************************** A sub-contractor of the construction sector, Mr Ng King-chuen, was fined $13,000 at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (October 17) for wage offences under the Employment Ordinance. The prosecution was launched by the Labour Department.
The employer failed to pay wages to two employees within seven days of the termination of employment as required by the ordinance. The total amount of wages involved was about $12,700.
According to Section 25 of the Employment Ordinance, wages must be paid as soon as practicable within seven days of termination of employment.
Any employer who fails to do so wilfully and without reasonable excuse is liable to a maximum fine of $200,000 and imprisonment for one year.
