The Secretary for Home Affairs, Dr Patrick Ho, today (October 17) launched "My Heart, My Home - 18 Districts Reach Out Together For Loveable Sights In Hong Kongˇ¨.

"My Heart, My Home" is organised by the Home Affairs Bureau, 18 District Councils and the Hong Kong Institute of Architects.  Its goal is to enable residents to better understand the district they live in and Hong Kong in general.  The exercise also aims to foster a sense of belonging and pride for the community, as well as to encourage participation in heritage conservation.

The voting of "My Heart, My Home" is divided into two stages.  The first stage started today and will last until November 6.  Hong Kong residents aged 11 or above with a valid identity card may elect their favourite sight out of three choices in their own district.

The second stage will be held between November 28 and December 18.  People may select three best loveable sights from the 18 winning sights across Hong Kong from the first stage.

People may vote online (http://www.myheartmyhome.hk), by post or at designated voting stations.  Voters of the elected top sight in each district in the first stage and the elected top three sights in Hong Kong in the second stage may win a prize.

"The activity gives us an opportunity to better understand the community that we live in.  It also allows us to share our views with others about the sights in our own district and to trace its history," Dr Ho said at the launch ceremony.

Other officiating guests at the ceremony included the Chairman of Islands District, Mr Lam Wai-keung; the Chairman of Southern District, Ms Mar Yuet-har; and the President of the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Professor Bernard Lim.

The China Artist Association will also run a programme called  "Chinese Painting ˇD Paint China" in conjunction with "My Heart, My Home".  The programme involves around 30 top artists from various provinces of China in painting a different city each year and Hong Kong is the chosen city this year.  The candidate sights of "My Heart, My Home" will be painted by the artists.  The paintings will be auctioned later for charity purposes.
