
FS welcomes report on SFC's annual review of Exchange's
performance
******************************************************** The Financial Secretary, Mr Henry Tang, today (October 17) welcomed the publication of the report on the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC)'s annual review of the Exchange's performance in its regulation of listing matters, covering the operation of the Stock Exchanges of Hong Kong Limited in 2004 and January 2005.
The first published annual review report focuses on the adequacy of the Exchange's operational procedures in key functional areas. The report concludes that the Exchange's procedures in the areas examined are adequate to enable it to discharge its statutory obligation to maintain an orderly, informative and fair market. The report has also identified areas of potential improvement, and made a number of constructive recommendations to improve the transparency and efficiency of the Exchange's procedures.
"This is a major step forward to enhance the transparency of the SFC's oversight of the Exchange's listing functions. I am thankful to the SFC and the Exchange for their effort to enhance the quality of market regulation," Mr Tang said.
