Public views invited on minimum wage and standard working
hours
********************************************************** The Labour Department is inviting people to express their views over the next two months on whether a statutory minimum wage and standard working hours should be introduced into Hong Kong.
A spokesman for the Labour Department said today (October 17) there had been calls for legislation to provide for a minimum wage and standard working hours. "The Labour Advisory Board (LAB) - comprising representatives of employers, employees and the Government and being the most important tripartite consultative body on labour matters in Hong Kong - is considering the matter in depth," the spokesman said.
"Given the far-reaching implications of the proposal on our economy and the labour market, we would welcome public views in the next two months on the issue to help the Government and the LAB in their deliberations."
To provide a platform for people to offer their views, the Labour Department today launched a dedicated webpage on its website.
People may access the webpage at http://www.labour.gov.hk/eng/plan/wage.htm. They may send in their views to the Labour Department by mail (Labour Department, 17/F, Harbour Building, 38 Pier Road, Central, Hong Kong), fax (2110 9467) or e-mail (wage@labour.gov.hk) by December 16, 2005.
