*************************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (October 5) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $80,000 on behalf of eight employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, Tam Kee Furniture Co. Limited did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $48,368.72, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The other three defendants, including Fantasy World Enterprises Limited, Wide Best Holdings Limited trading as Sushi An and Long To Cotton Yarn Company Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $24,598.85, $8,563.75 and $1,116.50 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $340, $450, $180 and $70 as costs in respect of the claims.
