Immerse yourself in the Latin elegance of the legendary Cuban diva, Omara Portuondo!

Omara Portuondo, the one and only female vocalist in the legendary Buena Vista Social Club will be in Hong Kong to open the Latin Passion Festival with her concert Flor de Amor Tour on October 20 and 21 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.

Hailed as 'The Edith Piaf of Cuba', Omara has introduced the wonderful sounds of Havana to the world. The diva from Havana is the ultimate interpreter of Cuban music and she has become well-known for her passionate "feeling", a Cubanised style of Bossa Nova with American jazz influences.

Sounding as good as ever, she is in her element while performing live, and has won over international audiences with her gloriously infectious stage presence, criss-crossing continents as an ambassadress of Cuban culture.

At the age of 15, she was already performing in the prestigious Tropicana Cabaret while her solo career started in her 20s.

In 1996, during the recording of World Circuit's Buena Vista Social Club sessions Omara was invited to sing a bolero, and it became one of the highlights of the album.

Not only has she a Grammy under her belt, Omara has also appeared at one of the world music circuit's most prestigious venues, New York's Carnegie Hall.

Her amazing talent is further revealed in her "Flor de Amor" album showing a more richly textured and subtle side to Omara. She exhibits the richness and maturity of a performer at ease.

Her "Flor de Amor Tour" in Hong Kong is backed by top musicians from Cuba and Brazil, who also played on her latest album.

Omara Portuondo "Flor de Amor Tour" concerts, the opening programme of the Latin Passion Festival presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will be performed at 8pm on October 20 and 21 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre Concert Hall.
