Police recovered stolen digital cameras worth about $11 million and arrested four men and one woman.
After intensive investigation into a robbery case reported in July, Police officers mounted an operation on September 29 and arrested four men and one woman, aged between 23 and 33, in various districts in Kowloon and the New Territories.
The stolen property, about 2,500 units of digital cameras, worth about $11 million were recovered in Kowloon Bay during the operation.
On July 28, 2005, Police received a report from a driver of a medium goods vehicle. He claimed that 312 boxes of digital cameras were loaded into a medium-goods vehicle (MGV) in the cargo terminal of the airport for delivery to No.4 Container Port Terminal, Kwai Chung.
Shortly after the MGV left the airport and travelled along Chun Wan Road, two men boarded the vehicle and used a pistol-like object to threaten the driver to drive to Tsing Yi area.
The driver allegedly stopped the MGV at a lay-by area at Tsing Yi Road West and was forced to take some pills given by the two men. The driver soon lost consciousness.
When the driver regained consciousness, he found his hands and legs tied up by plastic straps inside the compartment. The MGV was found parked at the roadside of Choi Yuen Road near Choi Fat Street, Sheung Shui and the goods were found lost.
A report was then made to the Police.
After intensive investigations, officers of Regional Crime Unit, New Territories South identified several targets and mounted an operation on September 29. They laid ambush at several locations in various districts in Kowloon and New Territories and arrested the five persons.
The arrestees were released on bail earlier pending further enquiries.
Investigation is still on-going.
