The Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) today (September 29) appealed to the public to maintain order and keep places clean while enjoying the National Day Fireworks Display on Saturday (October 1). They are urged to take away their belongings and not to leave trash or newspapers behind.
ˇ§Offenders will be subject to a fixed penalty of $1500,ˇ¨ a LCSD spokesman said.
He said that with the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade Beautification Project in progress, part of the Piazza of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre (HKCC) has been closed for renovation. Those who intend to go to the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade should take special care of their safety in crowded places.
Measures have been stepped up to tackle littering and illegal hawking problems. Sixteen special enforcement squads will patrol the HKCC, the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade, the Avenue of Stars, the UC Centenary Garden and the West Kowloon Waterfront Promenade.
ˇ§Additional departmental staff, security guards and cleaning staff will also be deployed at the venues,ˇ¨ he added.
Also, banners and on-site announcements regarding safety and keep clean appeals to visitors prior to and after the fireworks display will be arranged.
As part of the community support, about 60 youth volunteers will be at HKCC to help spread the message of care for our environment and assist in the clean-up operation immediately after the fireworks display.
The elevated walkway of the Hong Kong City Hall will be closed from 6pm on Saturday (October 1), while City Hall High Block will be partially closed from 6pm. Only hirers and participants at City Hall High Block Recital Hall and Exhibition Gallery will be admitted. The Low Block will open to the public as usual.
