In the Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDU) of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) where there were child residents presenting with fever earlier, the hospital made the following announcement today (September 28):
Today, one boy (aged 11) in the DDU presented with fever. He was transferred to the isolation ward for further management and tests have been conducted. His condition is stable.
As at today (September 28), there are eight child residents (7 boys and one girl, aged 4 to 15) presented with fever. Six of them had positive results for Rhino virus which is a virus for common cold. One of them had positive result for para-influenza virus.
Infection control measures have been further stepped up in the DDU and all other child residents are under close surveillance. Visiting arrangements remain as normal.
The new case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
The DDU of CMC is a long term hostel for severely mentally handicapped children.
