Update of Fever Cases in the Developmental Disabilities Unit
of Caritas Medical Centre

    In the Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDU) of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) where there were child residents presenting with fever yesterday, the hospital made the following announcement today (September 27):

     Today, one boy (aged 4) in the DDU presented with fever. He was transferred to the isolation ward for further management and tests have been conducted. The result for Rhino virus was positive. His condition is stable.

     As at today (September 27), there are seven child residents (6 boys and one girl, aged 4 to 15) presented with fever. Six of them have positive results in Rhino virus which is a virus for common cold; One of them had a positive result in para-influenza virus.

     Infection control measures have already been further stepped up in the DDU and all other child residents are under close surveillance. Visiting arrangements remain normal.

     The new case has been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.

     The DDU of CMC is a long term hostel for severely mentally handicapped children
