********************************************************

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed between Hong Kong's Correctional Services Department (CSD) and the Corrections Bureau of the Republic of Korea in Seoul today (September 27).

Signing the MOU on behalf of the CSD, the Commissioner of Correctional Services, Mr Pang Sung-yuen, said it signified "the common professional interest and desire to assist each other in their journey to exemplary correction services in the region".

In line with the principles of the MOU, Mr Pang added, the two jurisdictions would collaborate in major projects like observational visits to each other's institutions, joint research and study, bilateral seminars, exchange of staff and information.

"All these activities will inevitably add new impetus and momentum to the long-standing rapport between Hong Kong and Korea", he said.

The Director-General of the Corrections Bureau, Mr Bong-tae Yang, signed the MOU for the republic of Korea.

The CSD has signed similar MOUs with the Correctional Service of Canada and Singapore Prison Service to implement co-operation and exchange programmes.
