population in Kwun Tong
***************************************************
The Department of Health (DH) will promote the concept of healthy workplace among employers and employees in Kwun Tong District from today (September 26) until late October.
Promotion activities aim to increase the awareness of "Two plus Three Every Day" among the working population in Kwun Tong and to encourage them to build up a good habit of eating more fruit and vegetables for better health.
The Senior Medical and Health Officer of DH, Dr S F Tsang, said this was the first time that DH joined hands with district organisations in promoting activities specially for the working population since the territory-wide "Two plus Three Every Day" campaign was launched in June this year.
The essence of the healthy workplace concept is that employers and employees can work together to improve personal health, increase work efficiency and hence achieve greater success in business through adjustments in organisation policy and culture, improvements in working environment and changes in lifestyle.
The activities in Kwun Tong are jointly organised by DH's Community Liaison Division, the United Christian Nethersole Community Health Service and the Christian Family Service Centre. These activities, to be held in Millennium City with the support of the Kai Shing Management Services Limited, are for the first time organised at district level for the working population.
"Many of the working staff rush to finish their meals at offices due to insufficient time or troubles in having fruits and vegetables. Their personal health will be adversely affected in the long run," Dr Tsang said.
The idea of "Two plus Three Every Day" recommends a daily intake of at least 2 servings of fruits and 3 servings of vegetables as part of a balanced diet for the promotion of optimal health.
Dr Tsang pointed out that eating fruits and vegetables everyday was essential to a balanced diet. Fruits and vegetables provide abundant amounts of nutrients to the body. They also help prevent many chronic illnesses, such as heart diseases, cancers, diabetes and obesity.
"Two plus Three Every Day" promotion activities will be held at different intervals at different locations in Millennium City. Roving exhibitions will be staged at different lobbies in four phases. Questionnaires of a "Two plus Three" quiz will be directly distributed to offices and staff filling in the questionnaires may get a free box of healthy food from the game stalls at the lobbies. Seminars will also be held at conference rooms of the buildings during lunch time. Staff working there will have easy access to all these activities.
Date and venue for the roving exhibitions are as follow:
September 26 - October 1 Lobby, Millennium City One
October 3 - 8 Lobby, Millennium City Two
October 10 - 15 Lobby, Millennium City Three
October 17 - 21 Lobby, Millennium City Five
Date, time and venue for exhibition booths and redemption of free box of healthy food are as follow:
September 26, 27 and 28 11am ¡V 3pm Lobby, Millennium City One
October 21 11am ¡V 3pm Lobby, Millennium City Five
"We shall assess the effectiveness of the activities afterwards for future reference," Dr Tsang said.
"Meanwhile, we are liaising with organisations of other districts to explore the possibility for similar activities in future."
