Between now and next February, 16 events will be held including swimming, track and field, distance run, indoor rowing, squash, badminton, table tennis, tennis, seven-a-side mini-soccer, 11-a-side soccer, basketball, volley ball, snooker and "dynamic moments" photo contest. Being introduced into the games this year for the first time are bowling and orienteering.

Leading today's opening ceremony were Chairman of the Community Sports Committee, Mr Chau How-chen, and Director of Leisure and Cultural Services, Ms Anissa Wong Sean-yee.

Games participants, their families and other members of the public were then treated to more fun-filled activities in a sports carnival which offered demonstrations and play-ins in wushu, kendo, dance, golf and rope skipping.
