Customs officers of Man Kam To Control Point yesterday (September 21) foiled a smuggling case and seized from an incoming medium goods vehicle 46,183 pirated optical discs and 124 cartons of counterfeit goods. The total seizure value was about $1.34 million.
At 7.34am yesterday, Customs officers intercepted a medium goods vehicle arriving in Hong Kong from Shenzhen, which was declared to be carrying metal goods, artificial flowers, plastic goods, handicraft, shoes, stationery, toys, etc.
Upon an examination of the cargo, Customs officers seized 46,183 pirated optical discs with a total value of $1.12 million. They were concealed in 101 cartons. They also found 124 cartons of counterfeit goods, including shoes, garments, handbags, mobile phone cases, mobile phone hand-free devices and watches worth about $220,000.
A 45-year-old male driver was arrested.
The investigation is continuing.
