Tripartite meeting by heads of crime investigation units
********************************************************

Head of crime investigation units of Hong Kong, Guangdong and Macau today (September 22) held the eleventh tripartite meeting in Hong Kong with a view to combating cross-boundary crime and improving the law and order situations in the three places.

Led by the Director of Crime and Security, Mr Tang Hau-sing, representatives from the Hong Kong Police Force met their Guangdong and Macau counterparts at the Police Headquarters in Wan Chai.

The Guangdong delegation was led by the Director General of Criminal Investigation, Mr Liu An-cheng while the Macau delegation by the Assistant to the Commissioner General, Mr Cheang Seng-chio.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Mr Tang said, "The law enforcers of the three places discussed various topics on cross-boundary crimes including Internet crimes, illegal gambling, cross-boundary vice activities, drug offences, economic and commercial crimes, anti-triad and other joint operations.

"Through the ten meetings held in the past five years, the three parties have established close co-operation in the exchange of information and intelligence as well as launching tripartite operations to combat cross-boundary crime," he said.

He said that the co-operation among the three places had achieved fruitful results over the years.

There were many examples of successful co-operation in criminal investigation among the law enforcers of the three places, in particular the return of two suspects by the mainland public security officers to Hong Kong Police early this month.

With the assistance from the counterparts in the Mainland, the suspects in connection with a wounding case in which a seven-year-old boy was chopped, were arrested in Shenzhen and were subsequently returned to the territory.

The tripartite meeting is a bi-annual event which provides an opportunity for the heads of the crime investigation units to exchange views on strategies against cross-boundary crime and discuss ways to further enhance the existing liaison.
