
Cases Update

In the Developmental Disabilities Unit (DDU) of Caritas Medical Centre (CMC) where there were child residents presenting with fever earlier, the hospital made the following update announcement today (17 September):
Today, two more girls (aged 12 and 13) in the DDU presented with fever. They have been transferred to the isolation ward for further management and tests were conducted. The results for para-influenza were positive. The condition of the 13 years old girl with severe congenital heart disease and pulmonary hypertension deteriorated at about 3:30pm. Despite active resuscitation, she was certified death at 5:00pm. The case will be referred to Coroner's Court for follow up. The condition of other child residents are stable.
As at today (17 September), there are 8 child residents (2 boys and 6 girls, aged 7 to 15) presented with fever. All these residents got positive results in para-influenza.
Infection control measures have already been stepped up in the DDU and all other child residents are under close surveillance. Visiting arrangement remains unchanged.
The new cases have been reported to the Hospital Authority and the Centre for Health Protection for necessary follow up.
The DDU of CMC is a long term hostel for the severely mentally handicapped children.
