clean

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (September 16) reminded the public to observe fire safety and keep the countryside clean during the Mid-Autumn Festival.

A spokesman for AFCD warned of high fire risks due to seasonal tall grass.

"Visitors should refrain from releasing any Hung Ming lanterns, and should be extremely careful with barbecue fires and candle-lit lanterns," he said.

"It is an offence under the Forests and Countryside Ordinance to light fires illegally or release a Hung Ming lantern in country parks and open countryside.

"Any person who contravenes the ordinance is liable to a maximum fine of $25,000 and one year's imprisonment.กจ

Since last Mid-Autumn Festival, 23 people have been prosecuted and fined $300 to $600.

The spokesman also urged visitors to keep the countryside clean. Anyone who litters in the country park area is liable to a fixed penalty of $1,500.
