Talented young violinist to perform with Pan Asia Symphony
********************************************************** The young and talented violinist, Yang Tianwa, will perform violin concerto classics with the Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra next month (October).
Under the baton of director Dr Yip Wai-hong, the orchestra will perform Bach's "Air on the G String", Mozart's "Violin Concerto No. 4 in D, K. 218", Saint-Saens's "Havanaise, Op. 83" and "Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso, Op. 28", as well as Sarasate's "Carmen Fantasy, Op. 25".
Born in Beijing in 1987, Yang Tianwa began learning the violin at the age of four and made her debut solo performance at five. The acclaimed "violin prodigy from China" has performed with various famous orchestras and held many solo recitals in China and overseas.
Yang has won high acclaim from the renowned conductor, Seiji Ozawa, and legendary violinist, Issac Stern. At age 13, she became the youngest violinist to record the complete Paganini's 24 Caprices. At age 15, she was awarded a scholarship by the German Academic Exchange Service to study music in Europe and records regularly for Radio Sudwestrundfunk in Germany.
Yang is currently studying in the secondary school affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music in China, taught by Professor Lin Yaoji of the Conservatory, and Professor Jorg-Wolfgang Jahn of the Musikhochschule Karlsruhe of Germany.
The orchestra, which aims to promote music among the general public especially the younger generation, has performed frequently in the Hong Kong City Hall, regional town halls and civic centres over the past 20 years. A number of internationally famous conductors and soloists have been invited to perform with it.
Presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD), the concerts of "Yang Tianwa & Pan Asia Symphony Orchestra" will be staged at 8pm on October 29 and 30 (Saturday and Sunday) at the Auditorium, Tuen Mun Town Hall and Auditorium, Sha Tin Town Hall respectively.
Tickets priced at $100, $80 and $60 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) recipients. (Limited tickets for students and CSSA recipients available on a first-come, first-served basis.) A 10% discount applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
