Two women sentenced for street deception
****************************************

Two women jointly charged with one count of conspiracy to defraud in connection with a street deception case in Yuen Long were each sentenced to three years' imprisonment at District Court today (September 15).

Police Crime Headquarters of New Territories North has set up a task force with an aim to combat street deception in the region.  After extensive investigations and analysis into intelligence collected, Police had successfully identified a cross-boundary "spiritual blessing gang".

Officers attached to Regional Crime Unit of New Territories North arrested the two female two-way permit holders aged 44 an 55 respectively in Lo Wo KCR Station in early May this year.

They were suspected to be involved in a street deception case occurred in Yuen Long in late April in which a 48-year-old woman was cheated out of $688,000 worth of cash and gold ornaments.

The two women were charged jointly with one count of conspiracy to defraud. Upon their conviction, Police applied for an enhanced sentence under the Organised and Serious Crimes Ordinance and their sentences were meted out today.
