MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 19 employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (15 September) pursued nine claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $152,000 on behalf of 19 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

     At today's hearing, four defendants, including Crownson Ltd trading as Oasis Distilled Water, Liu Kwok Chiu trading as Orient Co., Pang Chak Tong Laurence trading as Laurence Pang & Co., Lam Chi On and Law Shi Yao trading as Wing Shing Construction Co., did not dispute the amounts claimed. The Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $47,034.12, $28,917.00, $13,727.32 and $7,713.53 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The other five defendants, including Kam Hung Construction Engineering Limited, Ng Kwan Tai trading as Man Kee Construction Company, Hong Hong Superstores Limited, Link Time International Holdings Limited and Success Fly Holdings Limited, did not appear at today's hearing. In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $20,051.61, $17,294.58, $8,671.30, $8,547.00 and $763.30 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $250, $120, $360, $330, $330, $120, $280, $410 and $330 as costs in respect of the claims.
