The Chairman of the Hospital Authority (HA), Mr Anthony Wu, today (September 15) announced on behalf of the HA the appointment of Dr Vivian Wong Taam Chi-woon as the Chief Executive (CE) of the Authority from September 20, 2005 until December 31, 2005 or the date when a new CE is appointed, whichever is the earlier. Dr Wong's appointment has been supported by the HA Board and approved by the Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.
After Dr William Ho made known in June 2005 that he would not seek renewal of his contract as CE of the HA on expiry of his present term on September 19, 2005, HA has initiated a global search for a new CE, which is now well underway. During the interim period, Dr Wong, as the CE, will undertake the management and executive functions of HA. In the event that a new CE is not appointed by December 31, 2005, extension of the interim arrangement will be made.
Dr Wong is currently Director (Professional Services and Medical Development) at HA Head Office and has been serving the HA since September 1992. Dr Wong has declared her intention of not applying for the post of CE of HA in the current recruitment exercise.
Dr William Ho will take up the post of Consultant (Community Medicine) as agreed by the HA Board, starting on 20 September 2005. He will take leave to pursue a programme of academic exchange at the Harvard School of Public Health before taking up his new job. During this period, he will also undertake a project to summarise the experience of healthcare reform in the HA for the past 15 years, which the HA Board considers most worthwhile for future reference locally and internationally.
