Man fined for operating unlicensed clubhouse
********************************************

A man was fined $3,000 today (September 14) at the Kowloon City Magistrates' Courts after pleading guilty to operating an unlicensed clubhouse in Mong Kok.

The court heard that officers of the Licensing Authority (OLA) of the Home Affairs Department inspected an unlicensed clubhouse on Fa Yuen Street, Mong Kok in March this year. During the investigation, OLA officers found 12 members having drinks in the clubhouse at which a membership system was adopted for operation.

The man admitted that he was the operator of the clubhouse, and that he was operating it without a Certificate of Compliance and was subsequently charged under Section 4 of the Clubs (Safety of Premises) Ordinance.

A department spokesman said that enforcement action would continue to be taken against unlicensed club-house operations to ensure the safety of patrons of these establishments.
