Man jailed for touting at airport
*********************************

A 37-year-old man was sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment in Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (September 12) for touting at the Airport.

The court heard that the Police Airport District mounted an anti-touting operation at the Hong Kong International Airport in Chek Lap Kok on June 19 this year in which officers were deployed to pose as arriving tourists.

During the operation, the 37-year-old man, a light goods vehicle (LGV) driver, approached a police officer who was posing as arriving tourist at the No. 1 carpark of the airport in Chek Lap Kok and offered transport services to the city at a lower fare.

The LGV driver was subsequently arrested when the officer disclosed his identity.

He was charged with offering services in the airport without the permission of the Airport Authority.

The man appeared at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court today where he was sentenced to three weeks' imprisonment.

A Police spokesman reiterated that Police attached great importance to these touting activities and will conduct similar operations from time to time to combat such illegal activities.
