MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for 11 employees

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 6) pursued four claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $90,000 on behalf of 11 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, the defendant, Tai Ming Development (HK) Limited trading as Dragon Seafood Restaurant, did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $38,566.56, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharge payable.

The other three defendants, Long To Cotton Yarn Company Limited, Family Limited and Seekers Limited trading as Ching Yeung Lau Seafood Chinese Restaurant, did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered the defendants to pay the MPFA the sums of $30,207.82, $14,935.77 and $8,032.50 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $430, $340, $300 and $320 as costs in respect of the claims.
