Two men, aged 21 and 33, were sentenced at the District Court today (September 5) to one year and eight months' imprisonment and three year and eight months' imprisonment respectively upon conviction of offences relating to using or possessing false instruments.

The court heard that on December 12, 2004, the two men used two counterfeit credit cards to purchase a computer in a shop in Smiling Shau Kei Wan Plaza, Shau Kei Wan.

On the next day (December 13), the bank notified the shop that the two credit cards used by the two men for payment were forged. On the same day, the two men returned to the shop to request a refund as they complained that the computer was not working.

While the duo were on Police bail pending further investigation, the 33-year-old man together with the 21-year-old man were intercepted by the Police in Mong Kok on January 18, 2005. The 33-year-old man was found in possession of five counterfeit credit cards, one identity card relating to another and one laptop computer with a card encoder.
