Public Private Partnership Project on Patients' Food
Services
******************************************************

The Hospital Authority (HA) Chief Executive Dr William Ho and Maxim's Caterers Limited (Maxim's) Managing Director Mr Michael Wu today (September 5) signed the contract of Public Private Partnership (PPP) Project on Patients' Food Services. The project is a milestone in public hospital patients' food services.

This PPP project enables Maxim's to provide food services to in-patients of the New Territories West Cluster (NTWC) and Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), primarily adopting the cook chill method. The project will be launched in the NTWC in the fourth quarter of 2005 and extended to QEH one to two years later. The contract is for 10 years, and throughout the period the project will be reviewed regularly for continuous improvement.

At the signing ceremony, Dr Ho said the PPP project would bring advanced technology and management expertise into patients' food services in public hospitals. While enhancing quality of patients' food, the project also allowed the Authority to allocate its resources appropriately to improve its core medical services.

Maxim's Managing Director Mr Michael Wu said he felt honoured and glad to be a long-term partner of the HA. The PPP project is a recognition of Maxim's efforts and commitment in the quality of food production, hygiene and safety. It also symbolised a new era of Maxim's catering services. Mr Wu said he was looking forward to a productive collaboration between both parties and efficient implementation of the project.

The Authority and Maxim's are committing to providing high quality, safe and enhanced patients' food services. The Authority has formulated a staff management plan which includes the deployment of the cooks and chefs concerned to fill vacancies in other clusters. Meanwhile, Maxim's has also started its recruitment activities for HA's cooks and chefs who would like to consider to apply to work at Maxim's.
