Three men jailed for uttering false instruments
*********************************************** Three man aged between 35 and 75, each convicted with one count of using a copy of false instruments and possession of false instruments, were sentenced to two yearsˇ¦ imprisonment at the District Court today (September 2).
The court heard that on December 22, 2004, officers of the Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) arrested the three men who were uttering three forged ˇ§US Federal Reserve Bondsˇ¨ with a total face value of US$300 million at a bank in Central.
Prior to their arrest, they had paid visits to a security transport company to discuss the possibility of transporting 250 pieces of ˇ§US Federal Reserve Bondsˇ¨ allegedly issued in 1934 with a face value of US$100 million each to a bank for deposit. The defendants produced scanned copies of the alleged bonds to show the security transport company of their possession of the bonds.
The security company rejected their requests so the trio contacted the bank directly. When they uttered the three false US Bonds to the bank on December 22, 2004, they were arrested for using a copy of false instruments and possession of false instruments and subsequently charged.
The defendants were convicted at the District Court on August 31 and the sentences were meted out today. Both counts were sentenced to two yearsˇ¦ imprisonment and the sentences are to run concurrently.
