MPFA recovers MPF non-payment for five employees

    The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (September 1) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for around $70,000 on behalf of five employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers. In the District Court yesterday (August 31), an employer was ordered to pay some $150,000 for 40 employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employer.

     Capisces International (H.K.) Limited, defendant of the first case, Step Wealth Logistics Limited and Step Gain Logistics Limited, defendants of the second case, did not appear at today's hearing.  In their absence, the Adjudicator ordered them to pay the MPFA the sums of $48,399.46 and $20,952.46 respectively, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

     The amounts awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA. The court further awarded payments of $230 and $460 as costs in respect of the claims.

     Meanwhile, the District Court yesterday issued a judgment against an employer. The defendant, Hong Kee Company Limited trading as Choi Wu Seafood Restaurant, was ordered to pay the MPFA the sum of $152,745.21, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable to 40 employees of the defendant.

     The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as it is received by the MPFA.  The court further ordered the defendant to pay $930 as the cost of the claim.
