*********************************************************** About 20 reporters from newspapers as well as television and radio stations attended a "Meteorology for the Media" course organised by the Hong Kong Observatory on August 26 and 31.
It was the first training course organised by the Observatory for reporters. Its aim was to enhance reporters' meteorological knowledge to facilitate accurate reporting of weather events.
One participant of the training course said the course material was useful and practical and Observatory professionals had taken care to design a course to meet the reporters' specific operational needs.
Senior Scientific Officer of the Observatory and one of the lecturers, Mr Chan Chik-cheung said the course provided an excellent opportunity for the Observatory to share experiences and exchange ideas with reporters. "It also enabled the two sides to understand each others' needs. I think we share the common goal of disseminating accurate and informative reports to the general public," he said.
