Hong Kong concert goers are in for a unique experience with a performance in October by the Borodin String Quartet.
ˇ§They played to perfection in performances that combined flamboyant dexterity with lethal precision and flashes of mercurial wit.ˇ¨ - Guardian
At the concert ˇV presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department - the ensemble, including Ruben Aharonian (violin), Andrei Abramenkov (violin), Igor Naidin (viola) and valentine Berlinsky (cello), will perform Mozartˇ¦s Quartet No. 19 in C, K465, ˇ§Dissonanceˇ¨, Schubertˇ¦s Quartet No. 12 in C Minor, D703, ˇ§Quartettsatzˇ¨ and Borodinˇ¦s Quartet No. 1 in A.
The Borodin String Quartet is one of the major quartets of our time. The Borodin Quartet's particular affinity with Russian repertoire was stimulated by their early close relationship with Shostakovich, who personally supervised their study of each of his quartets. Their performances are widely regarded as definitive interpretations, and the Quartet has taken the complete Shostakovich cycles for quartets to all parts of the world, including Vienna, Zurich, Frankfurt, Madrid, Lisbon, Seville, London, Paris and New York.
This is its 60th anniversary season and the Borodin String Quartet will perform cycles of the complete Beethoven quartets at the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and Vienna Musikverein. They will also be heard in recital in Madrid, Rotterdam, Brussels, Geneva, Munich, Lisbon, Barcelona, Athens, Cologne, Istanbul, Zurich, Berlin, Moscow, New York and London playing the music of Mozart, Schubert, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Stravinsky, Shostakovich-and of course Borodin. Records featuring the complete Beethoven quartets will also be released as part of the 60th anniversary celebration. Gala concerts honouring the quartet's contributions to more than half a century of musical history were staged in Moscow, London and Paris earlier this year.
The concert will be staged at 8 pm on Friday, October 7, at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall. Tickets priced at $200, $140 and $80 are now available at all URBTIX outlets. Half-price concessions will be granted to senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. (Limited tickets for students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients are available on a first-come, first-served basis.)
