In the first half of 2005, gross and net premiums of general insurance business recorded a growth of 6.6% to HK$13,115 million and 6.5% to HK$9,331 million respectively compared with the corresponding period of 2004.

New business statistics for the first half of 2005 showed that new office premiums (excluding Retirement Scheme business) of long term business increased by 4.7% to HK$20,673 million.   Individual Life and Annuity (Non-Linked) business increased slightly by 1.0% to HK$10,913 million in terms of new office premiums.  New office premiums of Individual Life and Annuity (Linked) business grew by 9.6% to HK$9,585 million.
