Legendary Cuban diva Omara Portuondo opens Latin Passion

    This autumn, Latin American culture will dominate Hong Kong's arts scene.

     The "Latin Passion" Festival organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, will run from October 20 to November 20, 2005, showcasing a selection of exotic music, dance and theatre works performed by internationally acclaimed artists from Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Cuba, Mexico, Venezuela, the US and Hong Kong.

     The opening performance is Buena Vista Social Club presenting Omara Portuondo Flor de Amor Tour on October 20 and 21.

     Dance spectacular "Jarocho" from Mexico will also mark the opening week with flamenco, danzon, salsa and Afro-Cuban rhythms performed by 40 dancers and musicians.

     Cuban cappella singing sensation, Vocal Sampling, and Hong Kong singer-songwriter Chet Lam and Edward Chan's Band will charm the audiences with a unique crossover experience.

     Other overseas productions include:
* A New Vision of the Fandango Traditions on the Caribbean Coasts by Grupo Chuchumbe (Mexico) and Claudia Calderon's Piano Llanero Ensemble (Venezuela & Colombia).
* Carlos Acosta's Tocororo - A Cuban Tale.
* Tango Una Leyenda (Tango: The Legend) by Tango Por Dos (Argentina).
* Latin Fantasia - Parade of Samba and Latin Dances by From Rios with Samba and Love (Brazil) and various artists.
* Closing Performance by ROSA PASSOS (Brazil).

     Local performances include:
* Latin Passion by Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
* The Postman by Chung Ying Theatre Company.
* Kiss of the Spider Woman by Spring-Time Creative Media & Perry Chiu Experimental Theatre.
