SWD offers assistance to the injured seven-year-old boy and
his family
************************************************************ The Social Welfare Department has condemned the violent attack on a seven-year-old boy in Kwai Ching last night (August 25) and expressed concern at the boy's situation.
A spokesman said the department would assess the welfare needs of the boy and his family, and render assistance as appropriate.
After the attack, the relevant medical social worker contacted the victim and his family and will actively follow up their welfare needs.
Regarding the criticism made by the programme hosts of Commercial Radio's "On A Clear Day" this morning, the spokesman clarified that department Information Officers had in fact explained clearly and in detail to radio station staff the follow-up procedure of the medical social worker and the assistance to be offered to the victim and his family, which included both emotional support and financial assistance.
The spokesman expressed regret over the comments of the programme hosts based on incorrect information and regarded it as irresponsible and unfair.
"The standard practice is that seriously injured people admitted to hospital and in need of welfare services will promptly and proactively have their needs met by medical social workers."
