Registered Air Mail Service" Launching Ceremony

Following is the speech by Assistant Postmaster General, Mr Dan Choi, at the New "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service" Launching Ceremony today (August 26):

Good afternoon, Mr Frederic de Bure, Mr David Chu, distinguished guests and friends from the media,

Welcome to the new "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service" launching ceremony.  Today, we are very honoured to have Mr Frederic de Bure, Managing Director, eBay HK & Singapore to be our officiating guest.

Over the past few years, the volume of goods sold online and delivered through Hongkong Post has increased significantly.  Among which, the international trade through e-auction platform is becoming more and more popular.  The emergence of these online transactions creates great demand for popular and secure online market places, speedy and reliable fulfilment and business-to-customer or customer-to-customer (B2C/C2C) delivery services.

Bearing in mind Hongkong Post's core values to provide excellent and innovative services, our co-operation with eBay provides much synergy as eBay delivers great business opportunities to Hong Kong sellers through its online platform, while Hongkong Post provides a total delivery solution to facilitate fulfilment of orders.

Hongkong Post has conducted a large number of surveys to understand the posting needs of online sellers in Hong Kong.  As a large proportion of the goods is ordered by household consumers overseas, delivery of the items requires worldwide coverage and simple customs clearance procedures.  Responding to market demand, we are launching this "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service" today.

Not only does Hongkong Post have an unmatchable worldwide postal network, we also have the advantage of simple and fast customs clearance procedures.  Basically, our customers are only required to complete a small green label for the purpose of customs clearance.

Most importantly, this new service simplifies the preparation work of online sellers in sending their registered mail to overseas customers.  In the past, they have to weigh and affix the required stamps on each individual item.  Now, under the simplified charging system of the new service they only need to preprint the Hongkong Post permit insignia onto the envelopes and present the items at one of our designated acceptance offices.  This will save them much administrative work and valuable time, enabling them to focus on business development.

Apart from providing a more customer-friendly service, we have also set up a special website to provide a one-stop solution to the online sellers.  The online sellers can also obtain step-by-step instructions on the use of the new "Bulk Registered Air Mail Service".  Through the website, online sellers can obtain current and useful information to meet their posting needs such as the posting restrictions of overseas destinations, an easy-to-use postage calculator and enhanced mail tracking facilities for major destinations.

Upholding our core value of "Linking People, Delivering Business", we are very pleased to be working closely with eBay on this occasion.  We fully believe that through our joint effort, we can deliver more convenience and business opportunities to our customers and help sustain the economic development of Hong Kong.

     Thank you.
