********************************************

The Mandatory Provident Fund Schemes Authority (MPFA) today (August 23) pursued two claims in the Small Claims Tribunal for some $29,000 on behalf of two employees, who were owed MPF contributions by their employers.

At today's hearing, the defendant, Liu Kwok Chiu trading as Orient Co., did not dispute the amount claimed.  The Adjudicator ordered the defendant to pay the MPFA the sum of $27,636, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharge payable.

The other defendant, Tai Fat Hau Restaurant Limited, did not appear at today's hearing.  In its absence, the Adjudicator ordered it to pay the MPFA the sum of $887.78, being mandatory contributions in arrears and surcharges payable.

The amount awarded will be reimbursed to the employees' MPF accounts as soon as they are received by the MPFA.  The court further awarded payment of $280 and $230 as costs in respect of the claims.
