The Labour Department will organise a job fair at Yuen Long Town Hall on Friday (April 8), providing about 1,500 vacancies for youths aged 15 to 24.
This is the second in a series of job fairs for youths in the New Territories jointly organised by the Youth Work Experience and Training Scheme (YWETS) of the Labour Department, employers and social service organisations.
The job fairs are aimed at bringing more interview opportunities to youngsters in remote districts and thereby enhancing their employment opportunities in a local district or cross-district.
The first job fair was held in Kwai Fong in mid-March and the third job fair will be held in Tin Shui Wai on April 22.
A total of 15 employers will provide some 1,500 vacancies from various industries in the job fair at Yuen Long Town Hall. The vacancies will cover such positions as clerk, waiter, customer service officer and shop manager trainee. Most of the jobs offer a monthly salary ranging from $5,000 to $7,000 and do not require work experience. Job-seekers can submit applications on the spot and may be selected for on-site interviews. The department has also arranged registered social workers to provide on-site career counselling to youngsters.
The YWETS, launched in 2002, provides six to 12 months' on-the-job training for young people aged between 15 and 24 with education attainment below degree level. So far, over 19,000 trainees have received training under the scheme. Another 11,000 trainees have secured jobs in open employment market with the assistance of their case managers.
