Peter Yarrow, a member of the internationally acclaimed folk trio Peter, Paul and Mary, will revisit Hong Kong with his daughter, Bethany Yarrow, and his band for two concerts featuring all-time favourites like "The Unicorn Song", "The Cruel War" and "Where Have All the Flowers Gone" to name a few.
The first concert will be at the Concert Hall, Hong Kong City Hall on October 30 (Saturday) and the second at the Auditorium, Yuen Long Theatre on October 31 (Sunday). The shows begin at 8pm.
A successful artist and activist, Peter Yarrow's talent is legendary. He teamed up with Mary Travers and Paul Stookey in 1962 to form Peter, Paul and Mary. The trio recorded their debut album titled "Peter, Paul and Mary", which remained in the Top 10 for almost a year. His gift for songwriting has produced some of the most moving songs for the group, including "Puff, The Magic Dragon", "Day Is Done", and "Light One Candle". By 1970, the trio disbanded and Yarrow concentrated on political activism and solo music projects.
Yarrow's musical creativity has always gone hand-in-hand with his commitment to social change. He was on the front line of protests, giving his time and talent over the years to major issues like: hunger, homelessness, education, equal rights and more. His music has been an advocacy. Among the many honours bestowed upon him, Yarrow is most proud of the Allard K Lowenstein Award, which he received in 1982 for advancing the causes of human rights, peace and freedom.
A Summa Cum Laude graduate of Yale, Bethany Yarrow is no stranger to the circumstances of the struggle for human rights and self-determination though she is still very young. As early as her teenage years she joined her father in marches, demonstrations and election campaigns. Bethany has travelled widely and has seen firsthand the results of social, economic and political inequity around the world.
In a joint presentation, Peter and Bethany bridge the generation gap with a program of songs and personal stories, which reflect their enormous regard for one another and shared commitment to making the world a better place for everyone.
"Peter and Bethany Yarrow in Concert" is presented by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
Tickets priced at $230, $180, $120 for the City Hall and $200, $150, $100 for Yuen Long Theatre are available at URBTIX outlets. Half-price tickets are available for senior citizens, people with disabilities, full-time students and Comprehensive Social Security Assistance recipients. Discount of 10% applies to Friends of LCSD performing venues.
