Payment of government rent

**************************

The Lands Department has issued demand notes for government rent in excess of $100 per annum for the half year ending June 24, 2004, in respect of properties subject to the Government Leases Ordinance (Chapter 40).

"To avoid possible inconvenience of queuing, members of the public are urged to settle government rent through various electronic means such as Autopay, Bank Automated Teller Machines (ATMs), Payment by Phone Service (PPS), bill payment services provided by banks and PPS on the internet (Treasury's website: http://www.info.gov.hk/tsy) or at any 'ESD Kiosks'," a spokesman for the Lands Department said today (June 3).

"Payment may also be made by sending a crossed cheque to PO Box No 28000, Gloucester Road Post Office, Hong Kong; or in person at any post offices except mobile post offices," he added.

Information on locations of post offices and their opening hours are available at the Hongkong Post's enquiry hotline on 2921 2222 or its website at http://www.hongkongpost.com.

"Government rent payers who have not received their demand notes should inquire at the Government Rent and Premium Enquiries of the Lands Department at 1/F, North Point Government Offices, 333 Java Road, North Point, or telephone 2231 3033," the spokesman said.

"Purchasers of properties are strongly advised to instruct their solicitors to ensure that at the time of purchase the government rent has been paid to date," he added.

For outstanding accounts of government rents, enquiries can be made through the Government Rent and Premium Enquiries Hotline on 2231 3033 by pressing 3,3,1.

If a written confirmation of accounts positions is needed, an enquiry fee is payable for each enquiry per property.
