Secretary for Home Affairs Dr Patrick Ho today (June 1) appealed to private developers and organisations to assist the Government in achieving its greening objectives.
"The Government's sustained greening efforts aim at significantly increasing the number of green areas in the urban districts, raising the standard and quality of existing green areas, and seizing every opportunity for greening in the planning and development stages of public works projects," Dr Ho told the presentation ceremony of the Best Landscape Award for Private Property Development.
Dr Ho believed that successful implementation and effective improvement of the overall green environment should not rely solely on the Government, but the active participation and support of different sectors of the community.
Impressed by the results of Award Scheme, he said the entries, both large-scale infrastructures and housing projects, had brought harmony to the environment. The management and maintenance professionals had provided quality landscape and pleasant greening features.
The Award Scheme is organised by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department (LCSD) and co-organised by the Home Affairs Department, the Buildings Department, the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects, the Institute of Horticulture (Hong Kong), the Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors, the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, the Professional Green Building Council and the Hong Kong Association of Property Management Companies.
The award scheme is divided into three categories: High-density Residential Property, Low-density Residential Property and Non-residential Property.
Belt Collins International (HK) Ltd scored both the Overall Winners of the Residential Property Category and the Non-residential Property Category with its entries King's Park Hill and Phase C1 Office Cyberport Development at Telegraphy Bay respectively.
Dr Ho also unveiled a plaque to mark the official opening of the Green Education and Resource Centre in Kowloon Park. He noted that the opening of the centre was a milestone in promoting greening effectively at different levels of the community.
The centre, managed by the LCSD, is located on the 1/F., Management Office, Kowloon Park, 22 Austin Road, Tsim Sha Tsui. The centre is equipped with such facilities as an exhibition gallery, lecture rooms, a reference library, a conference room, a horticultural workshop and an outdoor-activity area.
