Members of the public would have the opportunity to see for themselves the four glazed pots, which were discovered in Mongkok yesterday, at the Lobby of Hong Kong Museum of History starting from tomorrow until May 31, 2004, a spokesman for the Antiquities and Monuments Office announced today (May 8). Admission fee is not required.
The four flat-bottomed pots were unearthed from a drainage improvement work site at the junction of Tung Choi Street and Soy Street in Mongkok.
The spokesman said, "The four ancient pots found are in a complete condition. A preliminary examination suggests that they were burial artefacts of Jin Dynasty (265 - 420).
"It is rare that ancient artifacts of such good conditions were unearthed in an urban area in Hong Kong," said the spokesman.
The Hong Kong Museum of History is located at 100 Chatham Road South, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon. It opens from 10am to 6pm from Monday to Saturday, and from 10am to 7pm on Sundays and public holidays. It is closed on Tuesdays (except public holidays).
For enquiries, please call 2724 9042 (Hong Kong Museum of History) or 2721 2326 (Antiquities and Monuments Office).
